Brassica oleracea. Actually called “Cabbage Collards” by old-timers, because of the large, loose heads. Dark green. Slow bolting. Delicious, tender leaves.

Description

CULTURE: Plant seeds in flats 4-7 weeks early, or after soil reaches 50°F. Prefers soil high in nitrogen & phosphorus. Fall crop can be planted 2-3 months before growing season ends. Water frequently & consistently throughout growing season. Companion plants include dill, chamomile, sage, peppermint, beets and onions.

FROST TOLERANCE: Protect young plants from frost, especially after transplanting. Mature plants can stand temperatures as low as 10° F.

INSECTS: Control cabbage worms w/ Bacillus thuringiensis & aphids w/ pyrethrum.

SUGGESTED Individual Portion: 1 Tablespoon.
