A true heirloom dating back to 1892. The standard canning beet for more than 100 years. Deep-red, 3″ globes store well. Delicious, 12-15″ dark-green tops. Companion plants include broccoli and onions.
CULTURE: Avoid planting until soil reaches 60° F. Transplanting is not recommended. For larger, more uniform roots, thin to 1 plant every 4″.
SOIL: Beets prefer deep, rich, well-composted soil, but tolerate average soil if they’re provided with enough trace minerals and sun. To minimize scab, provide rich, well-composted soil.
WATER: Water frequently and consistently.
SUGGESTED Individual Portion: 1/4 Cup.
